CHI Straightener Review
Writing by Raechele on Monday, 2 of June , 2008 at 7:09 pm
Okay, so everyone is saying that the CHI straighter is great at this, the CHI straightener isn’t good at that, so on and so forth. I’ll be doing a review on what I think about the CHI straightener since I’ve owned one for two years.

CHI Straighteners
Pictured above is the CHI straightener I own. I have the Original CHI (1 inch) that heats to a fixed temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve had it for two years and it still works the same as it did when I first got it. I haven’t experienced any problems with it whatsoever. I love my straightener and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. There are actually five different CHI straighteners. CHI also has:
- The new CHI Turbo that comes in 1/2″, 1″ and 2″. It also has a temperature range of 175 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The mini CHI, also known as the wee CHI, is the same as the original CHI except in a 1/2″ instead of a 1″.
- The wet to dry CHI that comes in a 1″. In order to style your hair with this straightener your hair must be at least 90 percent dry.
- The CHI Nano that sterilizes itself and kills bacteria on the handle. The temperature ranges from 300 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Some CHI Nano models have a digital control that tell you the exact temperature of the iron.
Features
Common features for all CHI straightener models include:
- Ten foot cord that swivels in a 360 degree motion for easier handling.
- The ceramic plates distribute heat evenly.
- They only use a maximum of 25 watts of power.
- It only takes one minute for the straightener to heat up.
Choosing the Right CHI Straightener
The specific size iron you would want actually depends on the thickness and length of hair that you have. If you have thick hair, you may want to try a one or two inch straightener. If you have short or fine hair then you’ll want to try a half inch or one inch straightener. Also, if your hair straightens easily, you may want to invest in a straightener that has a range of temperatures.

How much does it cost? Because if it works I’ll try it, but it needs to be in my price range.

@jennifer
Unfortunately, it’s pricey. It ranges from 80 to 150 maximum. It all depends on which one you get. Although, I think any ceramic straightener will do.

I just posted a curling iron review for you. Unfortunately I’ve only tried the Conair Instant Heat curling iron, that I’m totally in love with, but I heard that Hot Tools and Helen of Troy make really good curling irons.

If it’s hottest is that for thick hair? can i use it on my hair (the original) my hair is probably medium, but more on the thick medium side and not thin. Can I use it on my hair, or will it fry my hair?

Your hair should be fine (:
Just make sure you use heat protection spray. It really does help.

Just something you should add to this, just because you use heat protectant doesn’t mean you aren’t damaging your hair to some extent. And chi’s are pressure plated, which means that the harder you press, the hotter it gets. So if you are using a chi, it’s a good idea to get somebody else to straighten your hair because they are generally more gentle with your hair. My friend has been using hers for a year and I can definatly see the damage in it.
