Growing Out Hair, Keeping Your Hair Healthy

There are no ‘miracle products’ that help your hair grow. It’s really all about being natural, from my experience. I’ll give you a few tips that I did to grow out my hair.
Growing out hair
This may be extremely hard for people whose best friends are flat irons, curling irons, and hair dye. Here’s what I do when I want my hair to grow out faster and healthier:
- Letting your hair do its natural thing
This means no heat, no hair products. Like I said, this will be very hard if your best friend is a straightener or a curling iron. Heat can damage hair badly. It may lead to dry, brittle hair if you don’t take care of your hair properly when using hot tools. If you’re not going out, let your hair air dry. Products can also cause hair growth to slow down. Hair products may be too strong for a certain hair type and cause it to fall out. - Deep conditioning
Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner is my favorite product for deep conditioning treatments. You can get this treatment at any salon for about 20 dollars. I would prefer to save money. Therefore, I choose to deep condition on my own. It’s a cream that you apply to your hair as you would any other conditioner. Clip up your hair if it’s in your way and put a shower cap over it to retain heat. I do this about every Saturday to restore the moisture that I lose from straightening my hair on a daily basis. - Brushing techniques
Brushing your hair harshly can cause breakage. The same goes for brushing too much. Start by brushing out the tangles from the bottom and working your way to the top. I prefer using a wide tooth comb with a fine tooth comb on the other side.
- Using a different shampoo and/or conditioner
I personally use Sunsilk Hydra TLC shampoo and conditioner. It works wonders for me. I noticed a big difference the first time I used it. I recommend it to anybody that asks about a good hair cleanser. I do a review on it so check it out if you haven’t already. - Hair ties and hair bands
This is for people that like to tie their hair up. Try using hair ties and hair bands that don’t have elastic or metal parts in them. The elastic is too harsh on your hair and the metal can catch on your hair causing breakage. As an alternative, try using a fuzzy pipe cleaner. Yes, it sounds funny, but it really works.

I found this helpful, I already deep condition my hair with Aussie 3 minute miracle and will switch from Mane N’Tail to a different brand. And it’s summer, I only straighten my hair on a special occasion. I have asian hair and I also use Garnier Sleek and Shine Leave in conditoner. What’s another good shampoo and conditioner besides Sunsilk? Oh yeah, and the ouchless line from Goody makes good hair ties.

Does the Aussie really work? I tried their shampoo but I guess it doesn’t work for me. I didn’t see a big difference :[
But I'm looking for something new to try so that I'm not always stuck with one brand, so let me know. Haha. Anywho, I liked Herbal Essences for awhile. It came in a purple bottle. More like the shampoo and conditioner was purple. Unfortunately, it stopped working once I dyed my hair. Pantene was too strong for mine and caused my hair to fall out [my hair's fine, but I have a lot of it]. Tresemme was really good. I don’t quite know why I stopped using it. Matrix, the one at salons, that came in an orange bottle worked wonders! Too bad it was 30 dollars all together for shampoo and conditioner. Hoped this helped! ![]()

I straigten my hair mostly everday (I don’t if I don’t go out). But after I straighten it, I blow dry my hair with the cool air on it. Would that help my hair or no?
I was also wondering… If I air dry my hair it gets poofy and wavy. So I was wondering if there was anything I could do with my hair when it’s in that form to make it look cute or something. That way I don’t have to straighten it.

My hair gets all poofy too. My hair isn’t curling, it isn’t straight, it’s wavy! I despise it. What I do is leave a little conditioner in my hair [my hair is fine, but I have a lot of it] so it weighs it down a bit. I use actual conditioner, not the leave-in stuff. The cool air helps. You can also try running some cold water over your hair as well.

How long do you leave in Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Deep Conditioner? for 3 minutes like it says? I want my hair silky smooth, instead of it being dry all the time. My hair type is kind of like yours but a little less thick. It’s wavy like yours though. Any help?

I apply the conditioner like any other I use. I leave deep conditioner in for about 20 minutes. I’ll make a video of it as soon as I can. :]

I have to disagree about there not being any miracle hair growth products. About 3 months ago I started using a product called Nu-Gro. The company is based in Louisiana, their products are all natural and do promote hair growth. Or in my case to bring back hair in areas where I as bald. And no I don’t work for them, but their products have been a blessing to me. I have ordered 2 kits which consist of a shampoo, conditioner and hair with moisturizers and without, (I have used both and the one without is really growing my hair faster) and a hair oil - non liquid from them within the last 6 months, and they offer a money back guaranteed. Their web site is http://www.nugrohairproducts.com/splash.asp

Something I did was I switched from Herbal Essences Herbal Hydration, to Got2b Squeeky clean and.. I dont remember the name of the conditioner, but its an orange bottle and smells like melon. Anyways, the reason I liked the got2b products is because it got rid of build-up on my hair from products (and also chlorine cause Im a swimmer) and I don’t know.. the cleanliness of my hair let it have room to breath and I dunno.. it grew faster? Just one of my tips. Cleansing shampoos = good.
